Abstract (Document Summary)

Two 6-year-old boys who suffered brain damage after drinking a baby formula were awarded $27 million in damages Thursday night by a Cook County jury.

The Circuit Court jury deliberated 14 hours before returning the verdict against Syntex Laboratories Inc. and Syntex (USA) Inc., both of Palo Alto, Calif.

The boys--James Duddleston of the South Side and Timothy Sheridan of West Palm Beach, Fla.--were given the baby formula, called Neo-mull-soy, when they were infants because they were allergic to cow's milk, Hayes said.
