Abstract (Document Summary)

On the pop singles' chart, the heavy-metal group Poison scored its first No. 1 song with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which moved up from No. 2 to end the two-week run of Chicago's "Look Away" (now No. 3).

Will these two still be the champs in January, when the charts resume after Billboard's one-week holiday break? It's possible, because the first No. 1s of the new year often are the same records that closed out the old year on top. But on the singles' list, watch out for Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative," which jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 this week; and Phil Collins' "Two Hearts," which zipped from No. 12 to No. 6. Either has the momentum to spoil Poison's party.
