Chicago, Ill.
The team received permission to perform the experimental procedure. Beginning Feb. 17, they administered a drug called Neupogen to stimulate production of stem cells, the primordial cells in the bone marrow that can grow into a variety of cell types. After four days of treatment, they then used a process called leukapheresis to filter the stem cells out of [Dimitri Bonnville]'s blood over a four-hour period.
