Women are at greater risk than men of suffering lung damage from cigarette smoking, according to a study by researchers at the University of Saskatchewan.

Dr. Yue Chen, who headed the study, says the findings are particularly disturbing because more young women are starting to smoke. "If smoking is to become more common in women in the general population, the apparent susceptibility to lung dysfunction in women could have important future public health implications," Chen warned.
