WASHINGTON BANS GAY MARRIAGE
[CHICAGOLAND Edition]
Chicago Tribune
-
Chicago, Ill.
Washington became the 27th state to ban same-sex marriages Friday when the legislature overrode the governor's veto to enact the ban. It was Democratic Gov. Gary Locke's first veto override, but he said he was consoled by the fact that the override meant Republicans would not send the gay-marriage issue to state voters in a referendum.
