Abstract (Document Summary)

Additional material published Sep. 25, 1985: Corrections and clarifications A story about cosmetic surgery in the Tempo section of the Sept. 24 Tribune was reprinted by permission from the American Medical News and should have carried an American Medical Association copyright line. The Tribune regrets the error.

The ad is for cosmetic surgery, and it is paid for by Republic Health Corp., a for-profit hospital company with headquarters in Dallas and facilities in 23 states. In a program that has pushed hospital advertising into new frontiers, Republic hopes that, by lifting the faces of patients, it can lift its own bottom line.

If the advertisement proves successful, Republic will take it to other cities where it has hospitals. There it will join Republic's advertisement for women to undergo cosmetic surgery at Republic hospitals in Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, and Van Buren, Ark. The ad for women also soon will appear in Miami and northern California.
