Abstract (Document Summary)

The revolution in vacuum cleaners continues with two new models focusing on power, speed and double-duty efficiency, from Bissell Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich. 49501. (Phone: 616-453-4451.) Suggested retail price: $50. The "3-Way Vac" has a folding handle that snaps down allows the vacuum to perform as a stick vacuum for floors or a hand vacuum for stairs, while an attachable hose transforms the machine into a tank vacuum for cleaning upholstered furniture or auto interiors. Its pick-up foot swivels to clean around furniture, and several accessories are included. The "3-Way Vac" eliminates paper vacuum bags, collecting dust and debris into a large cup that can be emptied. The "2-Way Vac" is a cordless vacuum powered by a four-battery system. It converts from stick vacuum to hand vacuum by removing the handle. A transformer and charging stand are included.

Another double-duty vacuum is the Turbo Vac Man, an improved model of the Vac Man from Dazey Corp., 1 Dazey Circle, Industrial Airport, Kan. 66031. (Phone: 913-782-7500.) Suggested retail price: $70. The 3.8-pound stick vacuum also converts to a hand-held model and includes a turbo-powered floor tool that moves the beater bar at 2,500 rotations per minute, which the manufacturer says enhances the pick-up power of the product. Included also are a dusting brush, upholstery tool and crevice tool.

The Express is the most powerful canister vacuum introduced by the Eureka Co., 1201 E. Bell St., Bloomington, Ill. 61701. (Phone: 309-828-2367.) Suggested retail price: $350-$450. The Express cleaning unit weighs 14 pounds, about 25 percent less than canister vacuums of similar power. Model No. 8290 has a 4.3 horsepower motor, while Model No. 8283 has a 4.0 horsepower motor. The Express switches from bare-floor cleaning to carpet cleaning with the touch of a button, and the Cordaway power release cord button automatically retracts the 25-foot power cord. A built-in Tool Pak holds various cleaning tools for easy access.
