"Right now, we're in . . . uh . . . where am I? I'm in Minnesota," Jett is saying by phone from the land of 10,000 lakes. "So we're going to Iowa tonight. We play in Iowa tomorrow. Then we play in Illinois. Then we go to New York. We're in New York for two hours or something. Then we get on a plane to Amsterdam, get there, go right to a TV station and do a TV show, then leave that night for London, where the next day we have a concert.

If anyone should be practiced at pacing herself on the road, it's Joan Jett (who arrives at the Rosemont Horizon Tuesday with Robert Plant). The vocalist/guitarist has been out there playing good old rock 'n' roll since 1975, when, at the age of 15, she became part of the Runaways, an all-female band. After a solo album in 1980, Jett formed the backing band, the Blackhearts, with which she still plays.

A proponent of straight-ahead, three-chord rock 'n' roll, Jett had a pair of Top 10 singles in 1982 with "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" and a remake of "Crimson and Clover." Currently she is back in the Top 10 with "I Hate Myself for Loving You," a single from the new Joan Jett and the Blackhearts LP, "Up Your Alley."
