Thanks to a very quiet week on the charts, the heavy-metal band Guns N' Roses is once again champ of the pop singles' list with its power ballad "Sweet Child O' Mine," which had no trouble holding off Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible" (still No. 2) and Huey Lewis & the News' "Perfect World" (still No. 3).

The lack of chart activity was due in part to last week's Labor Day holiday, which caused many radio stations to simply "freeze" the playlists used to determine this week's rankings. But one hot song managed to break through with a big gain anyway: Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy," which zipped from No. 9 to No. 4 and should go all the way to the top next week.
