Huey Lewis & the News has just embarked on its "10th Anniversary Tour," but you can skip the congratulatory cards and anniversary cakes. Sure, it's something of an accomplishment when a band hangs in there for a whole decade- especially without a single lineup change. But as far as Huey Lewis is concerned, it's no big deal.

"We always expected to be together at least 10 years," says singer/ songwriter Lewis, who founded the band in San Francisco in the late 1970s with Sean Hopper, Mario Cipollina, Johnny Colla, Bill Gibbons and Chris Hayes. (If you want to get really technical about it, the quintet is still some months shy of its actual anniversary, but it'll turn 10 during the tour.) "The 10th anniversary thing is kind of a publicity deal, but it's no big deal to us.

Since 1982-the year that its breakthrough album, "Picture This," put the band on the mainstream pop music map-Lewis and the News have sold more than 15 million albums and racked up 10 Top 10 hit singles; their latest single, "Perfect World," seems destined to bring the Top 10 hit single count to 11. A wry yet ultimately optimistic commentary on hopes and dreams, the song is the first single release from the band's splendid new "Small World" album. An exhilaratingly adventurous and danceable blend of rock, jazz, Cajun and reggae sounds, "Small World" represents something of a stretch for the band, reflecting a stronger sense of global/musical social consciousness.
