On the LP list, the group's "Appetite for Destruction" finally reached the top spot after an incredibly long climb-50 weeks. (Most albums don't even stay on the charts that long.) And oddly enough, the album that "Appetite" replaced at the top-Def Leppard's "Hysteria"-had to wait 49 weeks for its title. In recent years, only two other albums have been so slow: "Fleetwood Mac," which took 58 weeks, and "Whitney Houston," which needed 50 weeks.

But now the band's big "Appetite" will really need the sales boost created by that hit single, because two fresh new albums are already in position to challenge for No. 1: Steve Winwood's "Roll With It," which jumped from No. 5 to No. 3 this week, and Tracy Chapman's "Tracy Chapman," which moved from No. 6 to No. 4. The two already have been battling it out on the compact disc list, with Winwood this week regaining the No. 1 title he lost last week to Chapman.
