This week, Winwood established himself as a new power on the singles' charts, where his "Roll With It" took just eight weeks to zip to the No. 1 spot. That dropped another hot song, Richard Marx's "Hold On to the Nights," to No. 2 after just one week as champ and gave Winwood just his second No. 1 single in a very long career. (He also hit the top spot several years ago with "Higher Love," which owed much of its popularity to Chaka Khan's backing vocals.)
