The most startling change came on the album charts, where Def Leppard's "Hysteria" finally grabbed the No. 1 title (replacing Van Halen's "OU812," which dropped to No. 2) after being on the charts for 49 weeks; as recently as May, the album wasn't even in the Top 10.

Over on the singles charts, former Chicagoan Richard Marx also scored a first No. 1 with "Hold On to the Nights," which moved all the way from No. 5 to knock off the two-time champ, Cheap Trick's "The Flame" (now No. 5).

Marx's chief competition next week will be Steve Winwood's "Roll With It," which jumped from No. 6 to No. 4 this week. (Equally hot is Winwood's "Roll With It" album, which in its third week on the charts is No. 1 among compact discs and No. 6 on the LP list.)
