'THE FLAME' STILL FLICKERS AT NO. 1
[SPORTS FINAL, CN Edition]
Chicago Tribune (pre-1997 Fulltext)

Chicago, Ill.
Chalk up another banner week for Cheap Trick, whose big single "The Flame" had enough firepower left to hang on to its No. 1 title for a second straight week. Left out in the cold were three hot songs that couldn't move up-and probably won't get another shot at the top: Pebbles' "Mercedes Boy" (still No. 2 overall despite a No. 1 ranking in record sales), Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" (still No. 3) and INXS' "New Sensation" (still No. 4). Next week, the fight for No. 1 honors won't involve any of this week's Big 4. Instead, look for a real dogfight between two newer songs that have skyrocketed up the charts: Richard Marx's big ballad "Hold On to the Nights," which jumped from No. 8 to No. 5 this week; and Steve Winwood's bluesy "Roll With It," which zipped from No. 12 to No. 6 (it's currently in its fourth week at No. 1 on the rock charts).
