When Michael Jackson released his "Bad" album last fall, many critics said it would burn out with pop audiences long before it could match his last LP, "Thriller," either in sales figures or hit singles.

But when it comes to No. 1 songs, "Bad" definitely is the best. This week, the album's latest single, "Dirty Diana," moved into the top spot, establishing Jackson as the only artist in pop history to have had five No. 1 songs from one album. (The others are "Bad," "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Man in the Mirror" and "The Way You Make Me Feel.") And though it may seem like his "Thriller" songs were just as popular, he actually reached No. 1 with just two: "Billie Jean," which ruled the charts for an incredible seven weeks; and "Beat It," which stayed in the top spot for three weeks.
