Abstract (Document Summary)

Chalk up a banner week for Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine, which finally scored two major chart achievements-a No. 1 single and a Top 10 album-after years of near-misses with such songs as "Conga," "Bad Boy," "Words Get in the Way" and the recent "Can't Stay Away From You."

The single that did it for them is "Anything for You," which moved up from No. 2 to take the top spot away from Terence Trent D'Arby's "Wishing Well" (now No. 3). And the success of "Anything for You" helped spark new interest in the Machine's current album, "Turn It Loose," which, after nearly a year on the LP list, had started slipping badly.

As recently as three weeks ago the LP wasn't even in the Top 20. But then "Anything for You" really took off on radio, and sales for "Turn It Loose" exploded. This week, the album jumped from No. 14 to No. 10 and now has a real shot at the Top 5.
