'WISHING WELL' FINALLY PAYS OFF
[SPORTS FINAL, CN Edition]
Chicago Tribune (pre-1997 Fulltext)

Chicago, Ill.
Two months ago, Terence Trent D'Arby walked away empty-handed from the Grammy Awards show after losing the "best new artist" competition to Jody Watley. But Grammy night was not a total loss for D'Arby, who made a big splash with his live performance of "Wishing Well." At the time, "Wishing Well" was not making much of a chart run. Suddenly, however, the song was a hot item on both radio stations and the charts. This week, D'Arby finally got his prize-his first No. 1 single-because "Wishing Well" was able to move into the top spot after an incredible 17 weeks on the charts. (That makes "Wishing Well" the slowest-rising No. 1 since the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" in 1983.) Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
