'MAN IN THE MIRROR' A RECORD-SETTER FOR JACKSON
[SPORTS FINAL, CN Edition]
Chicago Tribune (pre-1997 Fulltext)
-
Chicago, Ill.
Chalk up another record-setting week for Michael Jackson, who now ranks as the only artist to generate four No. 1 pop singles from the same album. The song that did it for him is "The Man in the Mirror," which moved up from No. 4 to become champ in just its eighth week on the charts. That ended the No. 1 run of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up," which slipped to No. 3 after two weeks in the top spot. "Man in the Mirror" also moved up to No. 1 on the black singles' list (bumping Morris Day's "Fishnet" to No. 2), which gave him four straight "Bad" winners on that chart as well-but not a record. Jackson will have to score one more No. 1 to tie his sister, Janet, who hit the top spot five times with singles from her "Control" LP. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
