Abstract (Document Summary)

Down the street a placard in front of Hotsie Totsie Yacht Club and Bait Shop boasts a two-sided message: "Midnight special-Every night $1 shots, midnight till closing" and "Midnight special-Free beer with any sandwich, midnight till closing."

"I think it's a great idea to abolish the two-for-one," said Jeff Goudie, the Baja Beach Club's restaurant general manager. "We used to have two-for-one drinks where it would encourage the person to drink the first drink quicker because they'd have the second drink sitting there."

But some club owners feel the new guidelines work to their disadvantage. P.J. Flaherty's in Evergreen Park used to feature 25-cent beers on Wednesdays from 7 to 11 p.m. When the law prohibited drink specials at specific times during the day, owner Pat Flaherty instituted 50-cent beers all day Wednesday. "I didn't want to give away quarter drafts all day," he said.
