Ever since "Piano Man" hit the radio airways in 1974, Billy Joel has been a major force on the pop scene, especially as an album artist and concert performer. But, oddly enough, Joel has had just so-so success on the singles charts, where "Piano Man" got only as high as No. 25 and another of his classic '70s songs, "She's Always a Woman," peaked at No. 17. Though a few of Joel's releases have hit No. 1-"It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" did it in 1980 and "Tell Her About It" in 1983-most of his efforts have stalled well short of the Top 10.
