MADONNA SOARS TO TOP OF THE CHARTS FOR THE SIXTH TIME
[SPORTS FINAL, CN Edition]
Chicago Tribune (pre-1997 Fulltext)
-
Chicago, Ill.
Madonna has been setting chart records ever since she burst onto the pop scene 3 1/2 years ago, and now she has two more: She has just become the first artist to score six No. 1 hits in the '80s and the first female performer to get that many No. 1s as a solo act. The song that did it for her is "Who's That Girl," which moved up from No. 2 to end the two-week run of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." The success of "Who's That Girl" puts Madonna ahead of Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, and Daryl Hall & John Oates, who all have had five No. 1 hits in the '80s.
