Various artists, Soundtrack from "Back to the Beach" (Columbia): It's a great concept--Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello escape from their middle- aged domesticity for an encore performance in the sand. Along the way, they and a coterie of contemporary peformers including Dave Edmunds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Marti Jones, Eddie Money, Private Domain, Pee Wee Herman, Aimee Mann, Fishbone, Herbie Hancock and Dweezil Zappa re-create a host of surf classics. Unfortunately, it's a lot more entertaining in concept than execution. Few of the covers are as good as anything you'd hear in your favorite saloon on a hot Friday night. On this one, I recommend waiting to see the movie. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction or distribution is prohibited without permission.
