Deerfield's economic trend of the '80s is the booming development of office buildings along Lake-Cook Road between Int. Hwy. 294 (the Tri-State Tollway) and Waukegan Road. One after another these architectural monuments to commerce and industry sprawl amid park-like surroundings of landscaped, contoured earth.

Another development incentive was the establishment in 1982 of a tax- increment-financing district along both sides of Lake-Cook Road, village officials say. The 324-acre district runs along the north side of the street from the North Branch of the Chicago River to Waukegan Road and on the south side from Wilmot Road to the Milwaukee Road railroad tracks.

Developer Richard Stein of Stein & Co., Chicago, chose Lake-Cook Road in Deerfield for two office development sites, totaling 67 acres, partly because of a reasonable likelihood that the buildings would be used.
