But "Look Away" will have a tough time even staying in the Top 5 next week, because there now are four serious challengers in position to take over: Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which zipped from No. 6 to No. 2 on the strength of heavy radio airplay; Anita Baker's "Giving You the Best That I Got," up from No. 5 to No. 3 and especially strong in sales; Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative," up from No. 8 to No. 4; and Boy Meets Girl's "Waiting for a Star to Fall," which jumped from No. 7 to No. 5.

"Star" is doing even better on the adult contemporary list, where it moved up from No. 3 to give Boy Meets Girl (actually the husband-and-wife team of Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill) its first No. 1 as a recording act. But as songwriters, the Seattle natives already have two No. 1 pop hits to their credit: Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)."
