The new leader is the dance hit "Wild, Wild West" by the Escape Club, a London band that scored its first American No. 1 on the strength of a big surge in record sales. But the Club will have a tough time repeating next week, because two challengers are already in position to take over the top spot: Kylie Minogue's "The Loco-Motion," which moved from No. 4 to No. 3 this week; and Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine," which jumped from No. 5 to No. 4. Also in the picture: George Michael's "Kissing a Fool," which zipped from No. 15 to No. 9 and continues to be on track for No. 1 honors.

On the singles' side, "Giving" is already No. 1 on two lists-black and crossover-and is still moving up on two others-pop (from No. 22 to No. 16) and adult contemporary (from No. 11 to No. 9). Baker is doing just as well on the LP list, where in just two weeks "Giving" has zipped into the Top 10 on three charts: pop (No. 7), black (No. 4) and compact discs (No. 2).
