On the plus side was his showing on the black singles list, where "Batdance" edged up from No. 2 to give him his fourth No. 1 title this summer. "Batdance" also zipped from No. 10 to No. 5 in dance club play.

On the pop singles chart, "Batdance" (now No. 3) was zapped by the red-hot Richard Marx and "Right Here Waiting," a big ballad that moved up from No. 4 to give Marx his third straight No. 1 single. ("Waiting," which took just six weeks to hit the top, also is No. 1 on the adult contemporary list. Look for it to rule both charts for at least two more weeks.) And on the compact disc chart, Prince's "Batman" soundtrack was passed up by Tom Petty's "Full Moon Fever," which was only No. 3 last week.
