Chicago, Ill.
Lincolnshire residents likely will get the final say on whether Illinois Highway 22 should be widened to four lanes in the village, the mayor said, even though the village's business community and state traffic planners say the two-lane road should be widened. But Lincolnshire Mayor Barbara LaPiana, who ran for election on a platform opposing the widening, said, "There has not been a real groundswell of public support in this town for widening. Traditionally, the Illinois Department of Transportation has not widened roads if local elected officials opposed the widening. But the department may push to widen Highway 22 because the state is trying to develop a regional traffic plan for Lake County, said Rich Starr, an IDOT highway systems engineer.
