The book is an unauthorized biography but is based in large part on interviews with many of the Kennedy women, including former sister-in-law Joan Bennett Kennedy and sisters Eunice Shriver, Pat Lawford and Jean Smith. Leamer was given unprecedented access to family letters and to the caretakers for mentally handicapped Rosemary Kennedy.
