NEWS in Brief Fire destroys Framingham apartments More than 100 people were forced from their homes after a fast-moving fire swept through a Framingham apartment building yesterday. The blaze gutted a brick apartment house at 115 2nd Ave. and knocked out power to three nearby buildings. In all, 48 families were evacuated from their homes. No injuries were reported and the fire was put out by 5 p.m., firefighters said. Investigators were still searching for a cause of the fire last night. The American Red Cross set up a temporary shelter for the displaced families at the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School on Leland Street. Avon teen collapses in gym class, dies An Avon High School junior collapsed following a gym-class basketball game yesterday, dying later at a Brockton hospital. As of last night, school officials didn't know why. The name of the student, who's from Brockton, was not released.
