SonoPrep uses ultrasound to open up tiny passageways in the skin through which topical anesthesia can be delivered. Within five minutes, down from the hour it now takes, the area is numb and ready for needles such as those used for IVs. The product, which won regulatory approval this week, was developed by Sontra Medical Corp. based on research from the Massachustts Institute of Technology.
