LABEL. WE'RE TOLD THAT THE HIGHLIGHTS AMONG THE TRIALS AND REFLECTIONS WILL BE TALES OF SCHIMMEL'S AIR FORCE DAYS AND ASSORTED CONFESSIONS. SCHIMMEL, WHO HAS HAD SEVERAL SHOWTIME AND HBO SPECIALS AND IS A LONG-TERM CANCER SURVIVOR, TOLD CLUB OWNER BILL BLUMENREICH WHY HE CHOSE THE BOSTON VENUE: "IT'S SIMPLY THE BEST CLUB IN THE COUNTRY." LOCAL COMIC AL MARCH, WHO HAS APPEARED ON "WILL & GRACE," WILL OPEN FOR SCHIMMEL. FOR THE KIDS EMMY-WINNING ACTRESS LINDSAY WAGNER TOOK HOME HONORS FOR HER WORK AGAINST CHILD ABUSE. SHE WAS GRACIOUSLY MAKING THE ROUNDS THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS' CYCLORAMA, WHERE THE MASSACHUSETTS SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN HOSTED ITS ANNUAL "FAMILY AFFAIR" FUND-RAISER. THE MSPCC ALSO HONORED WORCESTER NATIVE DR. MICHAEL DURFEE AND HIS WIFE, DEANNE TILTON DURFEE. HE IS A PSYCHOLOGIST AND EXPERT IN CHILD-FATALITY REVIEW IN CALIFORNIA; SHE IS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE INTER-AGENCY ON CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. AS FOR WAGNER, SHE'S AN ADVOCATE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND KIDS' RIGHTS. SHE BECAME FRIENDS WITH DEANNE DURFEE AFTER ASKING FOR ADVICE ON THE 1986 TV MOVIE "CHILD'S CRY," IN WHICH WAGNER PLAYS A SOCIAL WORKER. "I'VE BEEN THERE EVER SINCE," WAGNER SAID OF HER WORK AGAINST CHILD ABUSE. ON A LESS SERIOUS NOTE: WAGNER WAS SO NICE THAT WE COULD NOT BRING OURSELVES TO PESTER HER ABOUT HER "BIONIC WOMAN" DAYS! SRO DINING? WHEN ANTHONY CATURANO, CHEF-OWNER OF PREZZA, COOKED THIS WEEK AT THE JAMES BEARD HOUSE IN NEW YORK CITY, THE EVENT SOLD OUT, A RARITY FOR ANYONE FROM OUTSIDE THE CITY. CATURANO AND HIS ENTIRE KITCHEN STAFF WENT TO NEW YORK A DAY EARLY TO PREPARE FOR THE 100- PERSON DINNER IN THE BEARD HOUSE'S NOTORIOUSLY TINY KITCHEN. THE DINNER WAS ATTENDED BY MEMBERS OF THE JAMES BEARD HOUSE, NEW YORK CITY FOOD LOVERS, AND EDITORS OF FOODIE MAGAZINES, INCLUDING TRAVEL & LEISURE, FOOD & WINE, AND WINE SPECTATOR.
