Station managers Carolyn Choate and Gordon Jackson have been told that their station, WYCN-TV (Channel 13), will be shut Oct. 1 to make room for a home shopping channel. The station has been dedicated to community programming for 10 years.
Harron Cable, the cable carrier for Channel 13 in the communities of Hudson, Litchfield, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Wilton and Francestown, say it has finally succumbed to FCC pressure to carry Channel 62, a home shopping channel based in Lawrence, Mass.
And even though TV-13 will still be carried on Nashua cable carrier Media One, that still means a huge cut in viewership for the station. Choate and Jackson, who are also wife and husband, said they don't think they can weather the cut financially.
