Abstract (Document Summary)

To help school administrators achieve those standards, Dr. Walsh made himself available as a colleague, a sounding board, and a friend, often dropping by the offices of colleagues with open-ended offers of assistance. In 1962, he began teaching social studies in Boston and, except for a brief stint in Middleborough, stayed in the city's school system until 1988, rising to become a deputy superintendent overseeing personnel and labor, budget, and information services.
