The City Council elevated [Patrick F. McDonough] from assistant clerk to the top job after the resignation last week of John P. Campbell, who is under a state grand jury investigation triggered by allegations involving missing fees and "no-show" appointments. The clerk's office is also being probed by both the city and state auditors' offices.
McDonough said morale among the office's 12 employees is "excellent" despite the revelations of $41,000 in missing fees and "no-show" hires that emerged in February.
The council president, Christopher Iannella, said yesterday that McDonough's long experience as a councilor and his personal integrity qualify him for the job.
