Gregory Niblett, [Dave Cowens]' campaign manager, said those problems had proved daunting. After a strategy meeting yesterday to outline the hurdles ahead, Cowens decided "that this was not the time to run for secretary of state under such difficult circumstances," Niblett said. "These were weird obstacles."
Cowens' statement seemed to contain a last jab at the man who helped thwart his political plans. "As for this particular office, I'm confident that the Republican Party will find a qualified candidate," Cowens said. "Perhaps one of the candidates for higher office, unable to win an endorsement, will agree to run instead for secretary of state."
