Brockton carries tremendous credentials into its 1988 debut. The five-time champion and eight-time Eastern Mass. Super Bowl participant has won 20 in a row and 42 of its last 43. Its last defeat came in the 1986 opener to St. John the Baptist of Long Island, 8-0. Brockton boasts perhaps its best backfield ever in seniors Rudy Harris and Darnell Campbell and a veteran quarterback in Bob Zurinskas.
Harris and Campbell combined for 256 of Brockton's 327 points a year ago and the backs have gained more than 2,200 yards apiece in two seasons. Brockton has a total of 13 returning starters and 22 lettermen.
[Armond Colombo] calls Zurinskas one of the keys. "We played him as a sophomore, and he's very capable. Once Bobby shows what he can do, like throwing to wide receiver Steve Marciano, Rudy and Darnell will be more effective," said Colombo.
