Abstract (Document Summary)

[Michael Grassia], 35, and [Carol Harding], 26, yesterday were recovering from wounds they suffered while working an undercover operation in an area of Dorchester well-known for drug trafficking. Harding was listed in good condition at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Grassia was being treated at Boston City Hospital, where officials declined to release his condition.

Harding chased [Alonzo Detrick] behind the Mobil station, when he was confronted by Grassia, police said. Detrick allegedly fired several rounds, hitting both Harding and Grassia. Grassia returned fire, grazing Detrick in the neck.

[Michael S. Dukakis] later delivered the encouragement and pastry to Harding at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Harding, alert and smiling, despite a leg wound and black eye, immediately asked Dukakis for a status report on Grassia's condition.
