Abstract (Document Summary)

[Tim Lollar] delivered a pinch-hit single during the ninth inning of the nightcap against the Royals Tuesday night. Though the Sox were swept, they may have uncovered a new offensive weapon.

Lollar's pride came to the front when he batted for Rey Quinones in the 6-5 loss Tuesday. He took two balls from Dan Quisenberry, then ripped a pitch up the middle for a single that put the tying run on second base. The Quiz, who came back to retire Wade Boggs and end the game, said he thought Lollar would be taking.

Lollar's 27 relief appearances for the most part have not been memorable. He has come in with a lead only four times. In his last appearance, Lollar came in with a 4-2 lead against Detroit Sunday and gave up a grand slam in a game Boston eventually won, 9-6.
