Patrick F. McDonough, an attorney who served on the council for 22 years - three times as president - was elected to fill [John P. Campbell]'s job as assistant city clerk.

After Campbell's victory, [Frederick C. Langone] immediately moved to elect McDonough to the assistant's job. McDonough won, with [Maura Hennigan], Langone, [Albert O'Neil] and [Joseph M. Tierney] voting for him.

[Michael McCormack] voted for Bart McCauley, who works in the clerk's office. Bolling, [Raymond L. Flynn] and [Terence McDermott] abstained. After his election, Flynn moved to make the vote for McDonough unanimous.
