Mr. Morgan died at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan after a short illness, according to Fabianne Gershon of Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Morgan, the son of J.P. [J. Pierpont Morgan Jr.], joined the J.P. Morgan & Co. bank in 1923, where he served as partner from 1928 to 1935.
After the Banking Act was passed in 1933, requiring commercial and investment banking activities to be separated, Mr. Morgan and others formed Morgan Stanley in 1935 to carry on the securities business formerly handled by J.P. Morgan & Co.
