At that point, Mogambo made a furious run from the outside under Jose Santos and stuck his head in front. [Richard Migliore] reached down with his whip and popped Waquoit righthanded, and Waquoit drew away as if Mogambo were standing still. Mogambo was second, 4 lengths ahead of 26-1 shot Midnight Call, who was disqualified and placed fourth, moving Moment Of Hope up into the show position.
The weights for the 1 1/8-mile Yankee, for which Mogambo is also a nominee, were released yesterday, and Waquoit and Mogambo were named co-highweights at 126 pounds. Massachusetts racing secretary Robert DeStasio said he would do his best to convince trainer LeRoy Jolley to bring Mogambo to Suffolk for a rematch.
