Neil Rudenstine photographs well but this particular afternoon he looks worn, a bit beat up, perhaps because of his schedule the previous day, which sounds more like someone campaigning for the president of the nation rather than a man already ensconced as president of Harvard. He was driven to Logan at 6 a.m. for a flight to Philadelphia, where he attended an Ivy League meeting. The same day he took a train to New York, put on a dinner jacket and spoke at a dinner honoring a Harvard man. He got back to Cambridge about 11:30 that night and tried to read about the next day's tenure decision for 30 minutes before falling asleep. Except for the travel, the day was like many others, starting with paperwork before breakfast and ending the same way late at night. His life as president sounds like all work, very little play.
