Abstract (Document Summary)

Defenseman Glen Featherstone, who recently suffered a setback in his recovery from back surgery, is a great guy, and I'm not the type who sees a conspiracy around every corner, but if you're the Bruins, you've got to be wondering if they were presented with all the facts prior to his coming from St. Louis . . . Mark Recchi is making an immediate impact in Philadelphia since the multiplayer deal that sent him to the Flyers from Pittsburgh. In his first game with his new team, against the Capitals last Saturday night, Recchi scored a power-play goal on his first shot. In his first home game at the Spectrum last Tuesday against the Islanders, his first shot netted him a power-play goal. In his first three games, he had three goals and four assists . . . Defenseman Garry Galley, traded from the Bruins to Philadelphia Jan. 2, has been playing with a hairline foot fracture suffered Feb. 8 in Quebec . . . Flyers goalie Dominic Roussel, brought up from Hershey after the trade, has given up a stingy two or fewer goals in eight of his last nine starts . . . Mark Howe's back is flaring up again, which isn't good news for the Flyers. When the defenseman is in the lineup, Philly is 13-11-3. Without him, the team is 9-17-8. He has three bulging discs in his back, which underwent surgery last offseason. After sitting out 24 games from Nov. 23 through the All-Star break with a broken thumb that served to give his back a rest, Howe returned Jan. 21 and had played every game until last Saturday . . . Moe Mantha, who was impressive during his stint with the US Olympic team while on loan from Winnipeg, was traded back to Philly for future considerations. The 31-year-old journeyman played 30 games with the Flyers in 1988-89 before Winnipeg claimed him in the 1989 waiver draft . . . The Flyers have yet to win a Patrick Division game on the road. They went into the weekend 0-12-2 and were 0-14-3 against division opponents dating back to Feb. 23 of last year . . . The Flyers will likely be without a captain for the rest of the season, since Rick Tocchet was traded to Pittsburgh. One of the likely candidates was former Whaler Kevin Dineen, but he is the son of coach Bill Dineen, which would pose an awkward situation for both of them. Other candidates reportedly considered were Howe, Mike Ricci and Terry Carkner. Wait and seethe
