Tommy Heinsohn appears destined for two announcing roles. He's in line to do play-by-play on Celtics road games on Channel 25 with Bob Cousy as his partner, while remaining analyst on home games on SportsChannel with golden play-by-play man Mike Gorman.
Until now, Heinsohn's strong personality has been identified with SportsChannel. If he joins Channel 25 and is watched by even a larger audience, would that help or hurt SportsChannel? For the first time since 1983, Heinsohn will not be an analyst for CBS on NBA or college games next season.
The loquacious Heinsohn insists there is no danger of overwhelming the quiet Cousy. "I'm a firm believer in letting the game speak, once you get the story line down," he said. Heinsohn did play-by-play on a few occasions on SportsChannel in recent years and also with Red Auerbach as his color man in the late '60s on Channel 56.
