On a gold chain around her neck, she always wore her husband Bill's wedding ring and shared her joie de vivre with generations of neighborhood children who came to know her as Nana Cahill. When her sons Sean and Robert came out as gay men in the early 1990s, Mrs. Cahill marched in the gay pride parade in Boston and demonstrated in support of legalization of same-sex gay marriage.
