Along with the Pride of Nashua, the North Shore Spirit of Lynn, and the Tornadoes of Worcester, the [Rox] were one of a string of small-market baseball teams intended to help revitalize old New England cities. The excitement was particularly high in Brockton because a Rox co-owner is actor Bill Murray.

The team, for the most part, has not disappointed. In 2003, their second year, the Rox won the Northeast League championship, sweeping the Spirit. In 2004, the Rox broke the league attendance record, regularly selling out all 4,800 seats at Campanelli Stadium.

As president since 2003, [Jim Lucas] was instrumental in the team's success. A former play-by-play announcer for the Miracle, a baseball team in Pompano Beach, Fla., he had the gift of gab and was not afraid to boost the Rox and Brockton.
