WVII eliminates 2 newscast slots Station to focus on quality of content in 6 and 11 p.m. broadcasts
WVII-TV (Channel 7) is hoping that viewers will embrace its new "less is more" philosophy when it comes to local news.
Effective Thursday, WVII has eliminated its 6:30 a.m. weekday and its 6 p.m. weekend newscast. The station will continue to offer its usual news and weather "cut-ins" during "Good Morning America," and will have 11 p.m. newscasts on the weekends. WVII is reapportioning its resources to improve its 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, according to station officials.
"We want to concentrate on our 6 and 11 p.m. shows Monday to Friday," said Jon McCall, who has been WVII's news director since Aug. 31. "We want to put our full staff on that. The result of any changes should be better news content."
