Abstract (Document Summary)

Noriko Kariya, younger sister of former University of Maine hockey star Paul Kariya, has verbally committed to attend the UMaine on a field hockey scholarship.

Noriko Kariya said she was impressed by Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix and assistant Diane Madl and feels the program is going in the right direction.

"Terry Kix and Diane Madl are excellent coaches and tremendous people and I think they really made the difference to me," she said. "I was pursued by Top 10 schools. Maine isn't as highly ranked but with their coaching ability and their persistence, they will eventually get the team to that level. Maine was scraping the bottom of the barrel when Terry got there and they have been a top 20 team which is amazing."
