Abstract (Document Summary)

RIVIERE-DU-LOUP, Quebec - Maine residents from Presque Isle to Fort Kent felt the rattling effects of a 5.4-magnitude earthquake that emanated from Riviere-du-Loup, early Sunday morning, according to reports received by local police departments across Aroostook County.

Police in Riviere-du-Loup said Sunday morning that they had received no reports of damage or injuries in the hours since the quake occurred.

Volunteers working the Can-Am International Crown Sled Dog Races checkpoints at Rocky Brook and the Maibec Lumber Camp, near the Quebec border, said the tremor made windows rattle and shake. Many thought the furnaces in the buildings were malfunctioning at first.
