17th annual Great American Smokeout Nov. 18
The Great American Smokeout is Nov. 18. Millions of people across the country will put away their cigarettes for one day and join the ranks of the smoke-free. It's the 17th annual Smokeout, and this week, Wendie Lagasse of the Healthy Heart program at EMMC talks about the success of the event.
The theme of this year's Great American Smokeout is "Take a bite, not a light," and the American Cancer Society and Maine apple growers are encouraging people to eat an apple instead of lighting up cigarettes.
The Great American Smokeout on Nov. 18 is meant to be an upbeat, good-natured, supportive event that encourages people who smoke to give up cigarettes for 24 hours.
